All right, today we are going to take a closer look at the diet of the average American citizen. Over the past few decades, the average weight of men and women in this country has increased by as much as twenty percent. The diet industry has made billions of dollars from people who have a dream of shedding their unwanted pounds. Sadly, these diets, like so many other attempts at losing weight, don't work for the average citizen. One of the most popular diets on the market is the Atkins Diet. This diet has been proven highly effective, but it does have its drawbacks. First and foremost, the diet eliminates an important food group. People on this diet get most of their calories from proteins, vegetables and some fruit. While the diet does work, it may not be for everyone. The best way of losing weight is to find what works best for you and stick to it. Losing weight and keeping it off is a lifetime commitment.

1. The concert on Friday night was a disaster. I would rather ______ watching TV that night.
A.stayed home B.I had stayed C.to stay home D.to have stayed home 答案: B 你的答案:C
理由: 本題測試"I would rather + that子句"的假設語氣。 "I would rather"之後接that子句時, 等於"I wish"之後接that子句, 可分別表示與現在或過去事實相反的假設語氣。 I would rather (that) he can do it. ( ) →I would rather (that) he could do it. (○) =I wish (that) he could do it.(真希望他現在能做這件事就好了。) I would rather (that) he is here. ( ) →I would rather (that) he were here. (○) =I wish (that) he were here.(真希望他現在在這裏就好了。) I would rather (that) I saw him yesterday. ( ) →I would rather (that) I had seen him yesterday. (○) =I wish (that) I had seen him yesterday.(真希望我昨天看到他就好了。) I would rather (that) I had stayed home that night. =I wish (that) I had stayed home that night.  would rather亦可表『寧願』之後接原形動詞, 之後置入than, 再接原形動詞。 例:I would rather stay home than go out.(我寧願待在家裏,也不願出去。)
2. Be a man ______ rich, he ought not to be idle.

 A.Busy as B.Busy when C.Busy because D.Busy although 答案: A 你的答案:A
Though she is beautiful, I don't like her. =Beautiful as she is, I don't like her. =As beautiful as she is, I don't like her.(她雖美,我卻不喜歡她。)

In two hours, John will arrive.(現在十點鐘。 John arrived at 10. After two hours, an earthquake took place.(約翰十點到。 It's ten o'clock now. John will arrive two hours later. (○) John arrived at 10. Two hours later, an earthquake took place.

 A.must practice B.has to practice C.ought to have practiced D.practice 答案: D 你的答案:C
常用的意志 動詞如下: 建議: suggest、propose、recommend、move 要求: demand、require、request、ask、desire、insist 命令: order、command 規定: rule、regulate、stipulate  2)意志動詞之後接that子句時, that子句的主詞之後恆接助動詞should, 而should 往往予以省略, 再接原形動詞。 例:I suggest/demand/order/rule that he (should) be quiet.(我建議/要求/命令/規定他要安靜。) It is suggested that the work (should) not be done until tomorrow.(有人建議這工作要到明天才能做。)

(○) =Because he often helps people, he wins our respect. He often helps people, he wins our respect. ( ) →Often helping people, he wins our respect.
